Residents just like you created the CARES (Citizens Advancing Responsible Emergency Services) long-range plan for the Cottleville Fire District. After studying the challenges and opportunities facing the District, the community recommended that Proposition CARES be placed on the April 3 ballot.

Training to Meet National Standards

Cottleville firefighter’s training hours are far below national standards. While most neighboring fire districts have a dedicated training officer, the Cottleville Fire District is forced to rely on volunteers to direct its program because of limited staffing.

Firefighters To Meet National Standards

The National Fire Protection Association recommends each fire truck have a minimum of four firefighters to safely and effectively handle an emergency situation, the Cottleville Fire Protection District typically has three. These staffing levels could directly impact your home insurance rates.

Up-To-Date Equipment
Some of the District’s equipment is so old that replacement parts are not available to make repairs. The costly challenges of aging equipment, along with rising fuel and maintenance costs have resulted in the District no longer meeting national safety standards.

Maintain Current Emergency Service Levels

The Cottleville Fire Protection District has made drastic cuts in training, programs and operations, despite a dramatic increase in call volume. Future reductions cannot be made without directly impacting the level of service provided to our community.

Restore The Tax Rate Approved More Than 25 Years Ago
To continue the current level of emergency services an additional investment from the community is needed. If approved, Proposition CARES would mean an additional investment of less than $2 per week for the owner of a $200,000 home. This new tax-rate would be nearly the same as it was in 1986.
